Kirk recently had to work around the current Hans Klok: The Beauty of Magic show installation at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino’s Theater for the Performing Arts. With limited time and space to prepare for the annual Hooters Pageant, Kirk used a standard VL package and Mac2Ks. As many of the existing lights and technology on hand at the theatre as possible were used. The highlight was Kirk’s extensive use of VERSATM Tube LED fittings. “They are amazing!” states Kirk.” 60 chases were built & used with the 100 VERSATM Tubes that lined each riser holding the 130 girls on the stage – representatives from all the Hooters Restaurants around the globe. “When you have the proper operator [Matt Firestone] on the Virtuoso board and Tony Ward gaffing, anything can seem easy. We were in, up, taped, and out in 4 days on a big show!” The show aired live in all 400 restaurants worldwide and took approximately 3 ½ hours.
Fox Sports Net’s Best Damn Sports Show Period takes the entire Hooters broadcast, edits it down and broadcasts their own 1-hour Hooters Special, complete with their own poolside interviews, on Fox Sports Net later in August. BDSSP temporarily relocated to Las Vegas for their annual taping of shows surrounding the Pageant; 3 shows taped poolside at The Hooters Hotel where the temperature averaged 108* (130* in the lights) and necessitated A/C units to be used outside. 1200W HMI’s were used because the 6Ks could not take the heat.
