The DC Games is a weekly mini series that airs during the summer. Disney Channel stars compete in various activities and fans can play interactively on-line, playing games at the Disney Channel website and sending their points to a team and player of their choice every week. The Disney Channel Games will be televised throughout summer on Disney Channel. The Games will benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation®, Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation™, UNICEF and Boys & Girls Club Clubs of America.
The red carpet kick-off party and live concerts featured some of Disney Channel's hottest music talent including Corbin Bleu, Hannah Montana, The Cheetah Girls, Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus. Both opening & closing concerts were taped in Florida at Disney World’s Wild World of Sports baseball stadium.
“The challenge was fitting the band, staging, lighting and scenery on a 40’x40’ stage,” explains Lee, “the producers wanted a realistic concert-look with lights and trusses visible.” Lee used vertical trusses topped with Martin Mac 2000 automated lights, strobes and a hanging rig with Martin Mac 2000 automated lights and strobes. There were 8 white and 4 multi-colored spandex sails used on the stage as a production design element which Lee lit with Vari-lite 2402 automated wash lights. As there were both daytime and night time concerts accommodations for the different lighting levels needed to be made. 12kw and 18kw HMI fixtures where used from the bleachers in the stadium to add fill light to the performers faces for the daytime show. These fixtures were then gelled blue and used to light the audience for the night time performance.
There was limited time for set-up so Lee made use of the Showviz LiteLab to visualize and pre-programmed the nighttime performances; thus only 1 evening of focus and tweaking the lights on stage was necessary.
Disney Channel Games was a co-production between Penn/Bright Entertainment, with executive producers Scott Bright & Sasha Cohen, producer Eileen Bernstein and 7ate9 Entertainment, with executive producer Art Spigel and producer Cindy Bradeen. The production was directed by Milton Lage.
Premieres: August on The Disney Channel.
