Design Partners Inc. and Lighting Designer Kim Killingsworth were pleased and proud to be part of the production and monumental success of CBS’ live broadcast of Fail Safe.
The production was executive produced by George Clooney, Pam Williams and Laura Ziskin, produced by Tom Parks and directed by Stephen Frears and Marty Pasetta Jr. Production Designer Richard Hoover and Art Director Troy Sizemore worked closely with Director of Photography John Alonzo, ASC and Kim Killingsworth on the live production. With sets built on two stages at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, the production was the first live TV event on network television in 30 years.
In order to light the bomber cockpit scenes, Killingsworth used Laser Media's Fiber Optic system. This marked the first time the Fiber Optic system was used in this application. The large lighting package was provided by Warner Brothers Studios.
The 2000 production starred Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Brian Denehey, Don Cheadle, Hank Azaria, Richard Dreyfus, Noah Wylie, Norman Lloyd and Sam Elliot. The production stayed true to the 1964 movie directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Henry Fonda, Larry Hagman and Walter Matthau.
